MOTORHEAD HAS SPOKEN
NEW QUESTIONS Updated MAY 24,1998
Q: Lemmy, how come you played a Gibson Thunderbird in the film "Eat The Rich"? Do you ever use a Thunderbird for live/studio work? By the way "Overnight Sensation" is awesome, my fave track has to be "Broken".
Lemmy: That was mine, yeah. I used to play one in Hawkwind, but my arms were too short! I sold it to Dimebag Darrell of Pantera last year.
Q: What Motorhead album do YOU consider to be the weakest ?
Lemmy: Iron Fist or On Parole
Q: What do you think about organized religion?
Lemmy: I think it is useful to keep the people scared shitless and for slave labor and it kept a lot of child molesters in gainful employment. It sucks.
Q: Why do you have two dots on the letter "O" (also known as the scandinavian letter O) in your logo? A 16-year old fellar in Finland who's looking forward to see you guys on stage sometime.
Lemmy: It's actually a German Umlaut! 'Cos it looks mean!
Q: A) Substandard or not, I thought LOST JOHNNY was a pretty damn cool tune, too, but what what kind of girls with sharp white teeth are waiting in the night -- what does that mean? B) What is the best kind of drugs to take while listening to Motorhead? --thanks for all the great tunes you've given us over the years.
Lemmy: (A) Vampires or Vampiresses? (B) Anything but Heroin and Downers. Thank you, sir!
Q: First I'd like to say: You're the best! Is there any more recordings with Motorhead and Wendy O' Williams? I've heard "No Class" and "Stand By Your man" on "No Remorse".
Lemmy: There are the B-sides we did for "Stand by Your Man" - me doing the vocal on "Masterplan". And the Plasmatics did "Jailbait". But not together, Alas.
Q: A lot of the metal bands I listen to are "selling out", but Motorhead has remained a true metal band ever since your first album. Not that I want you to, but why haven't you "sold out" to the mainstream? I'd also like to say that I love your work and that you and the rest of Motorhead should be hailed a gods of metal. Keep it heavy man.
Lemmy: Maintream? With all THOSE guys?
Q: I was wondering which came first, the movie or the song, titled "Eat the Rich"?
Lemmy: The movie.
Q: Mr. Lemmy sir: I have been following your pursuits for some time and have this question to ask pertaining your profession. "Is the chase, better than the catch" ? Can you explain this concept in more depth.
Respectfully.....Psyche :)
Lemmy: Yes. The "chase" of anything - a hobby, woman, power, contentment, rare stamps, unnecessary surgery is better because you still have an unfulfilled dream, hope and something to look forward to. When you've caught it/them/her, it's like some of your lights go out.
Q: Hi, I heard your version of Queen's 'Tie Your Mother Down' . What was the reason for playing the cover, was it just a joke, a challenge, or was it an old favourite of yours ?
Lemmy: None of the above. It was for a charity album. Ha!
Q: I am a Brazilian guy and I love Motorhead! You are the best band in the world. My question is: do you like Sepultura.... and you know any Brazilian bands.... thanks for read my letter. Lemmy is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lemmy: I like Sepultura and Max, and NAO Religiao (I think). See you soon in Brazil. Obrigado.
Q: I just wanted to tell you that I love the stuff that spews out of your amplifiers.... and my speakers. I have one question though. I wanted to know the title of the song with the chorus that goes "eye for eye , tooth for tooth"? No one I asked could tell me the answer , I know it sounds like a dumb question but like 80 other people are waiting for the answer from ME!! Very appreciated if you could enlighten all of us. One more thing...I'm in a punkish-pop band and wanted to know your opinion of covering that song that I don't know the title to as opposed to Ace of Spades which everyone covers...what do you think of that. Also do you get tired of people covering Ace of Spades? ROCK ON.
Lemmy: "No Voices In The Sky" from "1916". There are so many versions of "Ace" now, it's becoming kind of redundant to do it again!
Q: A while back, you and the guys went to MuchMusic in Toronto. What was your impression of MuchMusic, the city, or Teresa Roncon (the gracious blonde who interviewed you)?
Lemmy: Nothing but pure pleasure.
Q: I, like yourself, am a student of military history. We have spoken briefly about World War II on a few of my lucky occasions to meet you. What theatre of this war do you find most interesting? Which SS unit? Have you any interest in the Vietnam war? What other wars do you read about? I have some amazing unpublished original camp photos from Dachau to show you when we meet again. Thanks for all the prodigious music over the years. How much would Motorhead charge me to play at my wedding reception? (My so chosen mate is quite acquiescent with this idea)
Lemmy: I think the whole war is interesting. The SS units which are the most fascinating are the worst bastards, which would have to be Kominski (Russische Nr 1) and 36th Dirlewanger.
Q: Hail thee god of loud music playing, it is i MARKO THE KING OF FINLAND who wishes to consult thee on these troubling questions:
1. When is your next album coming.
2. Is it true that motorhead was thrown to jail on your first visit to finland for "refurnishing" the stage you were playing at.
3. Who invented your nickname Lemmy and why ,tell us the whole story.
4. I have thought about expanding my KINGDOM to the other scandinavian countries and i was wondering would you have any war strategy tips.
5. Finaly i order you to make the beard come back, gave it to charity did ya?
p.s. i'm NOT sorry for my english because i'm the KING and KINGS don't give shit about grammar.
Yours truly MARKO THE KING OF FINLAND (and within a week the whole scandinavia) SEE YA IN FINLAND!!
Lemmy: Yes, we were deported and 3 days in jail for giving a caravan dressing room a Viking funeral at a festival. 3 - We've done that. 4 - Charles XII. 5 - Maybe.
P.S. Kings use a capital "I" or "We"
Q: Hello Lemmy. I am the former Guitar Player of KILLER (YES, your Supporting-Act from the German-Tour 1982 (Prisoner-Suit)). Because I know a little your Lifestyle, here my question: How do you manage it, staying alive all that years...??? Greetings from PURE DYNAMITE (Ex-KILLER) too Philty also... Crown Kocher
Lemmy: Hello Hello Hello. By not dying.
Q: Do You Have Any Kids?
Lemmy: Yes.
Q: Do you remeber when you did that show The Young Ones? How did that come about?
Lemmy: They offered us money!
Q: Hi, I'm writing from Brazil, so my english is GOOD... when ya do the song "R-A-M-O-N-E-S" put some word in the verse: "Good bud, MAU MAU MAU". Do you know what MAU does mean? R: The same of BAD (in english) MAU (is bad in portuguese) cut'em down !
Lemmy: Oh. I didn't know that! - Actually it's "mow" as in "Papa Do Mow Mow". Not as in Kenya Circa 1949.
Well, that's it for now. We'll be posting more Q+A very soon so keep sending them in.
