Jan 5/04 Phil Campbell: 100 Greatest Welsh Heroes Final Vote

The final vote to find the 100 Greatest Welsh Heroes of all time runs from January 5th to February 22nd. Give Phil Campbell your support at http://www.100welshheroes.com

Motorhead guitarist since 1984, Phil Campbell was born, raised, and still lives in Pontypridd. A very influencial musician, his talent has shined through on numerous recordings from his days in Welsh outfit Persian Risk, through various guest apearances on tribute albums to the latest Motorhead CD, "Hammered". A true professional, Phil's live performances are awe inspiring, reaching many thousands of fans world wide every year.

Phil genuinely cares about his fans and goes out of his way to sign autographs for, and talk to, the people who wait for him before and after gigs. He makes the effort that few other musicians do these days.

A devoted family man, Phil balances the life of a touring musician with his role as son, husband, and father very well. Phil has been married to the same woman since the early 1980s - how many other people in the entertainment industry can say that? Following the tragic passing of his mother in 2003, Phil missed just a few dates of Motorhead's North American tour to return to Wales for her funeral: true dedication to all that is important to him.

Phil deserves much more recognition than he gets. He's hilariously funny and one of the nicest people you will ever meet!

Nov 25/03 PROBOT: imotorhead.com Gets A Special Preview of 'Shake Your Blood' Video

Hello All!

Your faithful webmaster was lucky enough to run into Dave Grohl last evening. Dave happened to have a rough cut of the Shake Your Blood video with him and treated me to a screening.

The video looks AMAZING! Everything a rock fan could want... girls, great driving music, girls, Lewmmy on Bass/Vocals, girls, Dave Grohl on Drums, girls, Wino on screaming guitar, girls. Did I mention the Suicide Girls? Awesome video!

Dave mentioned that there may be more then one version in the offering... one for the mass market and maybe a rated R version for the rest of us.

This is a great song and a great video! Can't wait until this record comes out!

Nov 21/03 PROBOT: Photos From 'Shake Your Blood' Video Shoot Posted Online

From Blabbermouth.net:

PROBOT, the much-anticipated metal side project of FOO FIGHTERS frontman/former NIRVANA drummer Dave Grohl, will release their self-titled debut album on February 10, 2004 through Southern Lord Recordings. A two-track 7" single, limited to 6,666 copies, will precede the album release and will contain the cuts "Centuries Of Sin" (featuring Cronos of VENOM) and "Emerald Lies" (featuring Wino of ST. VITUS, THE OBSESSED, SPIRIT CARAVAN, and PLACE OF SKULLS). Photos from the PROBOT video shoot for the track "Shake Your Blood", which took place on November 15 and 16 in Los Angeles with director Bill Yukich (JAY-Z) have been posted online at this location. Along with guest singer Lemmy from MOTORHEAD and Wino, the "Shake Your Blood" clip features the SuicideGirls' burlesque troupe.

PROBOT's debut features Grohl, ex-ZWAN guitarist Matt Sweeney and FOO FIGHTERS producer Adam Kasper accompanying some of metal's most celebrated and respected frontmen, including Lemmy, Wino, Snake (VOIVOD), Cronos (VENOM), Max Cavalera (SOULFY, ex-SEPULTURA), Tom G. Warrior (CELTIC FROST), Eric Wagner (TROUBLE), King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND), Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL, ex-NAPALM DEATH), Mike Dean (CORROSION OF CONFORMITY), and Kurt Brecht (D.R.I.).

"It's been about three-and-a-half years for this record to really happen," Grohl told MTV. "The logistics were nuts, getting all the different vocalists in the studio. ... Meanwhile, I was out on tour with the FOO FIGHTERS and coming home after eight months, the last thing I wanted to do was get on the phone and start rounding up tapes."

After several meetings with higher-profile labels, Grohl ultimately decided to go underground and release the album with stoner-rock kingpin Greg Anderson's Southern Lord, home to releases from bands like GOATSNAKE, PENTAGRAM and THORR'S HAMMER.

"This whole project has a certain vibe and spirit," Grohl explained. "There are certain boundaries that you have to stay within. The vocalists are all from a specific era. I found myself having to explain to people at record companies [why these singers are cool]. I realized that if I have to explain it to someone, they are just not going to get it. It's just not going to work." "I grew up listening to hardcore and underground metal," he continued. "That's how I learned how to play the drums. Those are the shows I would go see when I was 14. My hardcore band, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, opened up for THE OBSESSED."

"I am paying tribute to these people," he said. "But beyond anything, I just wanted to make a record with some great songs, with some great singers."

October 6/03 Year of the PROBOT

It was 2001 when rumors begin clogging the internet and magazines alike that former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters main-man Dave Grohl had Œsome new-fangled metal band' coming out. The name Probot became an instant point of interest for thousands. For over two years, the rumors spread, morphed and magnified, and as of 2003/now (!!), the secret sleeps no longer.

ALL RISE!!! . Probot is upon us and it's far more than anyone could have ever expected; an all-star performance record of monumental proportions. The songs on the Probot album were written entirely by Grohl. He then sent out these recordings to all of his favorite metal vocalists from a specific period of time in underground metal (83 to '90,) Each song features its own throat and Grohl also had help from a few other dudes (Kim Thayill of Soundgarden lays a blistering solo down on the King Diamond track, Bubba Dupree from Void is on the Mike Dean track. etc...) Grohl enthustiacally explains: "There are some fast tracks, the Cronos track (Centuries of Sin) is old school fast thrash metal. The Lee Dorrian track ("Ice Cold Man") is slow and has a dirge to it. The Snake track ("Dictatorsaurus") is kind of reminiscent of a old Voivod track. The King Diamond track ("Sweet Dreams") is slow. The Mike Dean track ("Access Babylon") is sort of like an old school metal hardcore-crossover song. It moves in a lot of different ways. It isnt about me; I'm just having the time of my life in fantasy camp being able to create something with these people I listened to for years when I was young." Probot is a eclectic metal compilation. Each track is its own unique entity, always potent, always compellingŠ. and completely metal!

The first grimm taste of Probot will be a two-track 7" , limited to 6,666 copies, unleashed this November on Southern Lord recordings. This cult item will feature two Probot songs: "Centuries Of Sin" with Cronos of Venom, and "Emerald Lies" featuring Wino of The Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Place of Skulls, etc.

The full album, totaling eleven hard-hitting tracks (plus a secret bonus track yet to be revealed), is to be released on February 10th, 2004 on Southern Lord Recordings and will be available on both CD and 2xLP format. A video for the track "Shake Your Blood" will be filmed in November.

August 15/03 MOTORHEAD to release career-spanning 5-CD box set 'Stone Deaf Forever!'

MOTORHEAD TO ISSUE FIVE-CD, 99-SONG BOX SET 'STONE DEAF FOREVER!' ON METAL-IS/SANCTUARY ON OCTOBER 7, 2003

CAREER SPANNING COLLECTION INCLUDES CLASSICS, RARITIES, 19 PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACKS, 60-PAGE BOOKLET, FULL-COLOR REPLICA TOUR POSTER AND BUTTON

Motorhead is a true original. Ever since vocalist/bassist Lemmy unleashed the British band on the world in 1975, multiple generations of music fans have embraced its one-of-a-kind brand of eardrum-battering, brain-bashing, utterly uncompromising rock 'n' roll. And now Motorhead is finally being honored with a proper box set.

'Stone Deaf Forever!' is a five-CD, 99-song career-spanning overview set for release on Metal-Is/Sanctuary Records on October 7, 2003. It's the first fully comprehensive box set containing recordings made for multiple record companies during the period 1975-2002. And it's also the first one ever released with full band approval.

The track listing was compiled with input from Motorhead and its fan club. Among the classic hits and rarities are 19 previously unreleased tracks.

The 60-page booklet includes rare and unpublished photos and memorabilia from the Motorhead archives in addition to an in-depth essay by Mick Wall, the noted heavy metal journalist and editor of Classic Rock magazine. Another special treat is the cover artwork, which incorporates a newly commissioned painting by longtime Motorhead artist Joe Petagno.

The Motorhead story has simply become a part of rock 'n' roll lore. It began when former Jimi Hendrix roadie Lemmy (born Ian Kilmister, the son of a vicar) was dismissed from his membership in the space-rock band Hawkwind after being busted in Canada for possession. The last song he wrote for the band was called "Motorhead" and after deciding against his original choice Bastard as the moniker for his new band, he chose Motorhead. Joining Lemmy in the original lineup were guitarist Larry Wallis and drummer Lucas Fox. Soon, Fox left and was replaced by "Philthy" Phil Taylor and guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke joined. Wallis left and the famous trio of Lemmy/Taylor/Clarke remained in place until 1982.

With Lemmy's throaty howls leading the way, Motorhead thundered onto the scene with albums like its self-titled debut, 'Overkill' and 'Bomber' and a curious thing happened -- the band was embraced by both heavy metal and punk fans. Considering the division between the legendary British punk scene and the "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it took the power of Motorhead to bring the two worlds together. The album 'Ace of Spades' took Motorhead to even greater heights of creativity and popularity but the legendary 1981 live album 'No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith' pushed everything over the top. The album debuted at # 1 on the British charts.

Clarke left the band in 1982 and was replaced by Brian Robertson, formerly of Thin Lizzy. Robertson himself left a year later and was replaced by Wurzel and Philip Campbell, once again giving Motorhead a two-guitar attack. Taylor soon departed and was replaced by Saxon alumnus Pete Gill. In 1987, Taylor returned to take over for Gill.

Respect for Motorhead manifested itself in a Grammy Award nomination for Best Metal Performance for 1991's acclaimed '1916' album. Through this time period for the band, Lemmy's songwriting had been growing, particularly in songs addressing the horrors of war. By 1992 Taylor had left Motorhead once again, this time to be replaced by former King Diamond skins-basher Mikkey Dee, who joined for 'March or Die.' Wurzel left in 1996 and the current lineup of Lemmy/Campbell/Dee has been the longest-running version of the band, yielding such strong albums as 'We Are Motorhead' and 'Hammered.' Motorhead retains both underground and mainstream appeal. For example, the song "The Game" became the theme song for World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Triple H.

As Motorhead nears its third decade of existence, there are no signs of slowing down. Lemmy and his cohorts are eternal.

August 7/03 The Argument: Motörhead's Lemmy Is Metal's True King

From MTV.com:

- by Iann Robinson

So before anybody decides to lynch me, let me explain that I worship Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson and Lemmy. All of them are metal gods in my eyes, but if somebody asked me who was the most consistent, full-on metal god, the man who lays it all down and always lives up to the metal dynamic, then I gotta say ‹ with respect to all ‹ that Lemmy is the truest of the true.

Halford, Dickinson, Lemmy: Who's The Metalest Of Them All? Vote!First off let's look at the span of the careers of these men. Lemmy is the only one without lame band drama. He never quit, he never left to do a solo project and he never had to come back for a reunion with his band. Halford left Priest, went on to do Fight and then his solo records and finally returned (some even question his motives as to why he came back). Nobody has to question Lemmy because he never went anywhere. Dickinson left Maiden, saying he didn't want to do it anymore, something Lemmy has never said. While Dickinson and Halford were finding themselves or figuring out what they wanted to do next, out came another Motörhead record, another tour and another notch in Lemmy's belt.

Some people will say that the voice makes the metal, and that Halford and Dickinson have the greatest metal voices ever. Granted, I love the high screams and opera-style vocals, but that style (whether used by Dickinson or Halford) can start to sound really similar. Halford and Dickinson are distinct from one another for the true metalhead, but to the layman, they're both screamers (at least, that's what some non-metal-trained ears tell me). Who sounds like Lemmy? Nobody. Wino from the Obsessed comes close, but Lemmy's scratchy, gravely voice is his and his alone, again striking the metal chord.

Then there's the music. We gotta be honest about this one, when Halford left Priest and Tim "Ripper" Owens stepped in, the music was pretty lame and Halford's Fight wasn't nearly as good as Priest. Even Iron Maiden couldn't keep it together when Dickinson left, and the records really suffered. Songs like "The Clansman" didn't hold up to "Run to the Hills" or "2 Minutes to Midnight." Halford switched things up when he left Priest, trying for a "harder" sound with Fight before going back to his older sound with his solo stuff. But with Motörhead, Lemmy just keeps churning out great records. You can't look at any single Motörhead record and say it sucks or that Lemmy tried to change the band's sound. In concert, when Halford or Dickinson take the stage, people usually want a greatest-hits review and aren't really into the new stuff. I recently saw Motörhead live and people were calling out for "Brave New World," off Motörhead 's latest LP, Hammered, as much as for "Ace of Spades" or anything else.

Finally, Lemmy takes the crown by fully living the rock lifestyle and staying true to the forces of rock and metal. He doesn't have kids to think about, a wife to worry about or anything other than metal on his mind. Other frontmen have hobbies (even Dickinson flies a plane when not out rocking), but Lemmy just rocks. No day job, no diversions ... just rock.

Lemmy doesn't demand a lot of bells and whistles on the road and he doesn't need to be the head of the bill or most important at the show. Motörhead's most recent jaunt with Iron Maiden had them opening before Dio ‹ I mean, come on ‹ BEFORE Dio? Lemmy doesn't bitch, Lemmy doesn't complain, he plays the show, plays loud and obnoxious and rocks every seat in the house. As for the younger metalheads who think they can bring it to Lemmy, let me school you on something: No matter how much cool facial hair, neat tattoos or nü-metal bounce moves you learn, you can't topple rock and roll personified. All the scary metal guys with their bottled water, healthy living and drug-free lifestyle will fail in the shadow of Lemmy, the man who truly lives sex, drugs and rock and roll.

I do love Halford and I do love Dickinson, but when the dust clears, Lemmy stands above all.

Don't forget to check out "The Wrap," premiering on MTV2 at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, August 10, for a look at these metal titans.

August 5/03 Motörhead Records New Wrestling Song!

We have been swamped with requests for info on the new Motörhead track being used for Wrestling's RAW. It seems that Triple H has formed a new wrestling group in an effort to solidfy his new "evil" character profile.

Triple H has aligned himself with "the dirtiest players in the game," Ric Flair, Randy Orton and Batista. Together, they call themselves Evolution.

Triple H once again called on Lemmy & Motörhead to record the theme music for their new group, Evolution. The band managed to record a version of the song in Germany recently. They then returned to the USA and re-recorded the final version. Look for more details on the release of the song in this space.

May 30/03 PROBOT Debut To Be Released Through SOUTHERN LORD RECORDS

From Blabbermouth.net:

PROBOT, the much-anticipated metal side project of former NIRVANA drummer and current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl, will issue their long-awaited debut album in late summer/early fall through Southern Lord Records.

The CD, which has been in the works for much of the past three years, will include a dozen-or-so tracks featuring some of metal's most celebrated and respected vocalists, including Lemmy (MOTÖRHEAD), Cronos (VENOM), King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND), Tom G. Fischer (ex-CELTIC FROST), Snake (VOIVOD), Eric Wagner (TROUBLE), Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, ex-SEPULTURA), Mike Dean (C.O.C.), Wino (ex-THE OBSESSED) and Lee Dorrian (CATHEDRAL).

Among the tracks that are set to appear on the effort are the following:

01. Dictatorsaurus (feat. Snake)
02. Centuries Of Sin (feat. Cronos)
03. Access Babylon (feat. Mike Dean)
04. Sweet Dreams (feat. King Diamond)
05. Ice Cold Man (feat. Lee Dorrian)
06. My Tortured Soul (feat. Eric Wagner)
07. Big Sky (feat. Tom G. Fischer)
08. Emerald Lies (feat. Wino)
09. Shake Your Blood (feat. Lemmy)
In a 2002 interview with Canada's BW&BK, Grohl explained how the idea for the project came about.

"It started out as a project in my basement," Dave stated. "At first I was just recording a bunch of instrumentals for fun and I had no intention of releasing it and I had no intention of having anyone else sing on it. And then after recording the first seven songs, I thought it would be kind of funny to almost make fun of that SANTANA record that had come out recently, with a different vocalist on every song. And then I played on the Tony Iommi [self-titled solo] record that is kind of the same concept, and I thought wow, maybe this will work. But instead of having the mainstream or more popular singers, I decided to restrict it to this genre of underground metal from 1982 to 1989. So we started calling people and I wasn't sure everyone would be cooperative, just because it was kind of out of left field that a guy from NIRVANA would be calling people, like Cronos from VENOM or Tom G. Warrior or Lee Dorrian. And everybody was really, really excited to do it. And from there it was a really simple process of simply calling up and saying, 'Would you like to be a part of it.' And if they agreed, I would send them a copy of the song that I thought they should sing on, they would call me back and either say yes or no and everybody said yes. And then we would just send them the master tape, give them money for the studio, then they would sing on it and they just sent them back. And one by one, they started coming back and they were just fucking awesome! Every one of them was just... I just waited for them to come in the mail."

May 6/03 Family Tragity Forces Motörhead Substitution

On May 2nd, the Motörhead family received some tragic news. Philip Campbell's mother passed away. Embroiled in the middle of a US tour, Motörhead suddenly found themselves without Philip's considerable talents for two shows.

In an effort to make sure that the fans are not disappointed with show cancellations, Motörhead contacted Todd Schofield. Todd has played with veteran metal act DANZIG in the past and has been a friend of the band for some time. Thrilled at the prospect of joining Motörhead on stage, Todd immediately agreed to fill in while Philip returns to England to take care of family matters.

"It is very sad that this tragedy happened and I am very happy that I could be there to step in and help the band that has meant so much to me."

Todd will play guitar for Motörhead at the following shows:

May 7 - Norfolk, VA - The Norva
May 9 - Worcester, MA - The Palladium

Philip Campbell will be back in the saddle for the rest of the tour starting with the May 10th show in Ashbury Park, NJ at The Stone Pony.

April 26/03 Lemmy Recovers His Hat!

Lemmy's famous black hat that was stolen approximately one year ago has been returned to him on the current US tour by a couple of Motörhead fans. They told Lemmy that they were at a party in Portland and the hat was on display by the original thief. The two Motörhead fans managed to grab the hat and get out without anyone noticing. They then made their way from Portland all the way to Seattle to return the hat to Lemmy in person. Lemmy has asked me to post the following message about the return of his hat:

I would like to thank from the bottom of my black heart two people who brought the hat I had stolen a year ago. They brought it from Portland to Seattle to give it back to me. I will not publish their names here in case of reprisals from the assholes who stole it. But they and I both know who they are. Thanks to you both.

--Lemmy

From Blabbermouth.net:

Motörhead's LEMMY Gets Trademark Hat Back - Apr. 27, 2003

The distinctive hat owned and worn by Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister has been returned to its rightful owner after it was stolen from the backstage area last May. "It's got everything still on it!" Lemmy waxed enthusiastically to Reality Check TV's Edward "Ace" Annese, referring to the various ornaments the hat had on it. Apparently, an unnamed fan "saw it at a party in Portland (Oregon), and when no one was looking, nicked it back", said Lemmy, beaming. The fan then drove all the way from Portland to Seattle, Washington to deliver it personally, gaining Lemmy's eternal gratitude. "Now that's dedication, man!" exclaimed Lemmy.

The hat in question was mysteriously plundered from the backstage area of Motörhead's last San Francisco show on May 17, 2002 at the now-defunct club Townsend. The theft occurred during a 30-minute window between the beginning of the encore and the end of the show. Lemmy had worn the hat on stage for the main set. A hat jokingly purported to be Lemmy's later surfaced at Amoeba Records in San Francisco, with a sign reading "Lemmy's Hat, $1000", which momentarily was thought to be the real thing by some fans.

The black hat ‹ a cross between a pirate hat and cowboy hat ‹ is of great sentimental value to Lemmy. He bought it at a truck stop while on tour many years ago, and he personalized it with his own original decorations and designs. The hat, which has become Lemmy's trademark, is made of brushed, soft cloth although it is "hard" and maintains its shape.

(Thanks: Edward "Ace" Annese / Reality Check TV)

December 6/02 HELLOWEEN's MARK CROSS: 'My Heart Is Bleeding'

From Blabbermouth.net:

HELLOWEEN drummer Mark Cross (ex-METALIUM), whose bout with mononucleosis has prevented him from appearing on the band's forthcoming studio album (the drum tracks on the CD are being recorded by Motörhead's Mikkey Dee), has posted the following message via his official web site:

"How tricky life can be! I cannot believe that a thing like that came in my way and especially now, during such an important production! I've always been a positive-thinking man and somehow felt invincible. Well, for the first time in my life, I have to admit that something knocked me out and forced me to take a serious rest, a thing I'm not really used to, since I'm a very energetic kind of guy. I always loved to push myself to the limit yes, but it seems that exactly that caused the virus' attack. You can easily get infected with mononucleosis when your organism has reached a low level after stress or months of heavy training like I had. Mononucleosis - Epstein-Barr is unfortunately a very common virus and can leave heavy damages in your health. It is a kissing disease and can be caught anytime anywhere. It can cause serious damages to your health and ruin liver and spleen, if you don't get immediate medical attention with pure vitamin treatments and can awake in the worst cases multiple scleroses. Knock on wood! Its first symptoms are swollen glands, high fever and then you'll be lying in bed wishing you'd never been born. It takes at least 6 months of recovery. And again, knock on wood! My heart is bleeding for the decisions being made right now and for not being able to give my full performance on the HELLOWEEN production, a very, very inconvenient time but that's life. The good thing is, that I'm already feeling much better, though I know that it's still gonna take a while to get 100% back on my feet again and be able to jump and bang around like a madman! J

"Thanks to my family and friends who stand by my side right now and give me positive energy.

"See you all on tour next year!!

"Peace, Mark Cross"

December 2/02 Motörhead Drummer To Guest On New HELLOWEEN CD

From Blabbermouth.net:

Veteran German power metallers HELLOWEEN are utilizing the services of Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee during the recording sessions for their as-yet-untitled new album after regular skinsman Mark Cross (ex-METALIUM) was struck "by the malicious (EBV) Epstein-Barr virus also known as Mononucleosis" this past September, according to the band's official web site. "[Mark will] need at least 4-5 months of recovering," continued the band's statement. "The symptoms of this virus are very dangerous and can leave serious marks in your health. It first destroys your entire immune system and leaves you no energy. Therefore Mark is still is too weak to do any kind of intense activities at the moment and strictly needs to rest by the doctor's orders. We all agreed on having Motörhead's Mikkey Dee as the replacement for the recordings only! To avoid possible rumors, Mark Cross remains the drummer in HELLOWEEN and we're looking forward for the tour next year."

LEMMY: THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY
by LEMMY KILMISTER
WITH JANISS GARZA

Published by Simon & Schuster in hardback on 4 November, price £16.99

White Line Fever is the autobiography of the front man of the loudest rock band ever. Mot–rhead are the most outrageous and excessive heavy metal band in the history of rock music and their drugged and drink-sodden antics make compulsive reading. Told with Lemmy's indomitable charisma and humour, this is Lemmy¼s story in his own words: a rock icon who over the past thirty years in the industry has stayed true to his music, his fans and his pleasures.

Lemmy was born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Stoke-on-Trent in 1945, the son of a vicar who walked out on his mother when the boy was just three months old. Inspired by Little Richard and Buddy Holly, Lemmy formed what would become the ultimate metal group in 1975 and named them Mot–rhead. The group went on to embrace a rock-and-roll lifestyle fuelled by drink, drugs and women, and in the process recorded nineteen albums and attracted a huge following. After a brief spell in the early å90s when the band fell from grace in Britain, Mot–rhead are back with a vengeance, gathering more fans and getting great reviews for their latest album Hammered.

Lemmy is a survivor, a rock-legend who has been there and seen it all. At 57, few could claim with any conviction to have taken more drugs, drunk more bourbon or entertained more women than Mot–rhead¼s lead singer. In this autobiography, Lemmy relates his tales of unbridled excess in his unpretentious, hugely entertaining style and ruminates on what has kept Motörhead going after 22 years.

WHITE LINE FEVER is a truly head banging tour through the last few decades of speed metal, offering a sometimes hilarious, often outrageous, but highly entertaining trip with the front man of the loudest rock band in the world.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born Ian Fraser Kilmister in Stoke-on-Trent in 1945, Lemmy formed Motörhead in 1975. Fronting the band through the highs and lows of superstardom, Lemmy has recorded nineteen albums with Motörhead who remain at the top of their profession after 22 years. He now lives in Los Angeles.

Lemmy will be doing a signing at 6pm on Friday 18th October at Virgin Megastore 14-16 Oxford Street, London. W1. Here is your chance to grab the new book and get it signed by the legend himself!

August 14/02 ANTHRAX's SCOTT IAN Confirms Plans To Tour Europe With Motörhead

From Blabbermouth.net:

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has confirmed via the band's official web site the group's plans to tour Europe with Motörhead during October.

"We're finally getting back to Europe after four years," Ian wrote in his regular online column, Alpha Mail. "And this won't be the only run either. We plan on coming back a few times. These dates are just the beginning of the whole new cycle for [the forthcoming CD] We've Come For You All. "And we get to do it with Motörhead.

"Finally, after all these yearsä We've never toured together. The first time I met Lemmy was in 1986 at the St. Moritz club in London. I was there doing promo for Spreading The Disease. I saw him at the bar and we started talking and drinking and drinking and drinking and I made the huge mistake of trying to keep up with him. What did I know about beer in Europe? Nothing then. I ended up with alcohol poisoning and was puking on the plane all the way to Amsterdam the next day. Good times. Now when I bump into him at the Rainbow, I'll have a Maker's and know my place. We are going to be in the middle slot with an as-yet-unknown opener. This should give us a decent set length. I'm really excited about these dates. Big halls, thousands of metalheads every night. I'm fucking pumped, I wish it started today. It's going to be great."

Confirmed dates so far are as follows:

Oct. 13 - Manchester, UK @ Apollo
Oct. 14 - Glasgow, SCO @ Clyde Aud
Oct. 15 - Birmingham, UK @ NIA
Oct. 17 - Newport, UK @ Newport Centre
Oct. 18 - TBA
Oct. 19 - London, UK @ Wembley Arena
Oct. 21 - Offenbach, GER @ Stadthalle
Oct. 22 - Stuttgatart, GER @ Philharmonie
Oct. 23 - Berlin, GER @ Columbia Hall
Oct. 25 - Munich, GER @ Colosseum
Oct. 27 - Cologne, GER @ E Werk
Oct. 28 - Amsterdam, NETH @ Heineken Music Hall
Oct. 29 - Paris, FRA @ Zenith

With regards to ANTHRAX's much-delayed new album, We've Come For You All (now rumored to be coming out through Beyond Records in the US), Ian had the following to say: "Just to reiterate what I said before, we refuse to let anyone or anything fuck up this record. When everything is set up right, we will let it go. That's it. We won't disappoint."

August 12/02 Motörhead's LEMMY To Have Warts Surgically Removed, Sold Over The Internet

From Blabbermouth.net:

Motörhead leader Lemmy is considering having his famous facial warts surgically removed, according to Spin magazine. "They get bigger as you get older," Lemmy says, "and I've been shaving around them long enough." Incredibly, the bassist/vocalist would also be open to the possibility of auctioning off the gnarly things to a lucky (and presumably rich) fan. "Yeah, I could sell them on the Internet, like that porn-star chick Houston who sold pieces of her labia."

Baldwin and Misskelly were sentenced to life, while Echols received the death penalty. All three were teenagers when they were tried in 1994.

May 21/02 LEMMY'S HAT STOLEN!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Motörhead FRONTMAN LEMMY HAS TRADEMARK HAT STOLEN AT SAN FRANCISCO CONCERT; HAT'S RETURN IS REQUESTED

Legendary heavy metal trio Motörhead played Club Townsend in San Francisco, CA, on Friday, May 17, 2002, as part of its U.S. tour to promote the Metal-Is/Sanctuary CD 'Hammered' and, unfortunately, the distinctive hat owned and worn by vocalist/bass guitarist Lemmy was stolen from the backstage area. The theft occurred during a 30-minute window between the beginning of the encore and the end of the show. He'd worn the hat on stage for the main set.

Lemmy bought this black hat -- a cross between a pirate hat and cowboy hat -- at a truckstop while on tour many years ago, and he personalized it with his own original decorations and designs. The hat is made of brushed, soft cloth although it is "hard" and maintains its shape.

The rocker's famous hat became a trademark. He's often been photographed wearing it, and he always wears it when performing in concert.

Lemmy would like to have his hat back. Individuals who have information about the hat's whereabouts may send an e-mail to Ace Trump, the web master of Motörhead's official web site -- www.iMotörhead.com. Tips should be e-mailed to Trump at: acetrump@bigfoot.com. Tip providers may remain anonymous. A reward is being offered.

May 1/02 ROAD REPORT
FROM ROGER - PHIL'S GUITAR TECH!

Legendary drummer CARMINE APPICE joined Motörhead on stage
at their recent show at 'WWF The World' in New York.

Motörhead has now completed more then half of the US tour in support of their critically acclaimed new album, HAMMERED. I just got an email from Roger Dgerio, Phil Campbell's guitar tech. I thought all of you would like to know just how dedicated this band. It seems that no hardship is too great for them to endure. Here is the report Roger sent:

Road Report

A Hell of a Weekend - The Canadian Adventure

Now we all laugh about it, but it certainly wasn't funny...

It all started in Poughkeepsie, right after soundcheck. Our tour manager, Adam Parsons, comes up to me and tells me I need another visa to enter Canada. I already have a work permit, but it looks like since I'm Brazilian I need a transit visa as well. So I went to find the runner and headed to a lab to have some passport photos made. After some conversation we decided to drive to Boston overnight instead of Worcester (where our next gig would be), to try and get the visa at the Consulate there. (The other option would be drive down to NYC overnight, get the visa and try to make it to the Worcester gig - discarded). So Adam wakes me up early and we walk down to the Consulate, only to be told that they stopped issuing visas something like 6 years ago. So we walk back to the bus and start driving to Worcester. Bummer!

90 minutes to the venue and bam! A blowout tire!!! Adam and Wally (our driver) both on the phone trying to sort a way to go the gig, but no one working for the promoter or the venue answers the phone. Half an hour later a guy comes in, takes the tire out, charges something stupid like US$170 and we head to Worcester, only to find one of the best stages we played this tour.

After the gig and packing the truck, shower and bunk waiting for the worse to come. I couldn't sleep at night wondering if I would be able to enter Canada, so when we hit the border I was already worried. The agent went to check the bus and commented on the quantity of booze available, but we managed to go in anyway... Yeah, things are getting better! NOT! We made it to Toronto, met the 2 other opening bands, Voivod and Razor (Speedealer followed us into Canada) and had the best catering we ever had in this tour. Food was great, Phil loved the provided cider and the band is finally onstage.

Then a guy three times my size tries to "hug" Lemmy, and I'm the only one trying to keep him from doing so, pushing him offstage with all my not so great power, and being completely unsuccessful... a few seconds later Tim joins me in the wrestling stage, and so does Matt. Then a security guy finally join us onstage, and one of Phil's stage left stacks holds up because Lem's spare Rickenbacker is holding it in position! But the show went on great, and everybody's happy... and then me and Alex start packing the truck with the local crew, it's cold and windy and rainy, so the sooner we end it the better. But then the shit hit the fan: one of the local crew guys let a BIG production office case (big as a fridge but heavier) hit Alex's finger. He starts bleeding and gets a little lost, so I grab him a clean towel, tell him to go wash his finger and Adam asks the local promoter to take him to the hospital. So me and Brian (our truck driver and monitor system assembler) had to pack the remaining gear without Al.

We might need to leave him behind, but after a couple of hours at the hospital (3 stitches in the hole in his pinky and a broken bone) we get everybody and start driving to Montreal at 7h30 in the morning instead of the scheduled 5AM depart. Then the dark forces take on us AGAIN! The bus engine stopped 250km away from Montreal at the same time we were supposed to start loading in! We stop at a repair shop but nothing can be done, so we hire 2 vans which arrived at 3:30PM!!! Mikkey takes the wheel in one of them and Adam and Hobbs split the driving in the other one.

Near the Ontario/Quebec border it starts snowing!!! So we get to the gig a little bit after 6PM... Brian had already loaded out the truck and Bozz (Morbid Angel's FOH engineer), Eric and Harden (Speedealer's guitarist and drummer, respectively) were on hand to help us BIG TIME, especially if you have in mind that we have a 9-fingered drum tech. Doors were postponed, soundcheck was obviously scrapped and the concert begun not as late as you might imagine.

Speedealer, Voivod and Morbid Angel play great sets, and it's finally Motörhead time! But the barricade does not seem to be secure enough. So midway thru Bomber, which is the 3rd song on the set, the crowd breaks onto the stage. Phil leaves the stage seconds before one of his stacks is tossed on the floor... strange noises all over the stage coming from the guitar rig makes the band go offstage for 3 minutes which gives me very little time to think and wire something that works. Eric and Dirty Dave (our great merch guy on a night "off") helped me a lot to get the band onstage, and after some audience threat by the promoter the concert smoothly goes on and great!!! Our Canadian fans are really great despite some "intruders" :) So after a snowy load-out and a fixed bus we head back to the US and everyone's happy again!!!! Great story, huh?
