July 16, 2007 Former Girlschool guitarist dies

Kelly Johnson 20/06/1958 - 15/07/2007

It is with extreme sadness to inform you that Kelly Johnson, original lead guitarist of Girlschool, passed away on Sunday night, 15th July.  She has been suffering from spinal cancer for the last six years.

Joining Girlschool in 1978, Kelly was a face in the classic line-up alongside Kim McAuliffe (rhythm guitar, vocals), Enid Williams (bass, vocals) and Denise Dufort (drums).  The band was an integral and major force in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) movement, beginning with the release of its debut album, "Demolition" (1980), and continuing with the follow-ups "Hit 'n' Run" (1981) and "Screaming Blue Murder" (1982).  Kelly's participation also saw Girlschool collaborating with Motorhead under the name Headgirl for the “St. Valentine's Day Massacre” EP.  Both bands appeared on the lead track “Please Don't Touch” and covered each other's songs, Girlschool choosing “Bomber” and Motorhead picking “Emergency”.

Please Don't Touch (Motorhead and Girlschool)

Kelly originally left Girlschool in 1984 after recording the band's fourth album, "Play Dirty", to live in Los Angeles for the next ten years. She rejoined in 1993 and moved back to the U.K.  In 2000, she decided to quit the music business for good after recording her final album with Girlschool, "Not That Innocent: 21st Anniversary" (2001), though always remained a close friend to the band.

Kelly Johnson (RIP) will be missed heavy-heartedly by all.  Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends.

June 21, 2007 Better Motorhead Than Dead

Better Motörhead Than Dead – Live At Hammersmith rekindles memories of a momentous night that even a cosmopolitan city like London doesn't see every day. Early June 2005 saw the long queue in front of the venerable Hammersmith Odeon, a venue of many legendary live shows – stretch right to the tube station on the other side of the road. What was going on? Motörhead had invited their fans to their 30th anniversary party, and over 5,000 of them accepted. Their number would have been even greater had the powers that be in the British capital not rigorously limited the capacity of the illustrious venue. Loved by their fans, respected by the press due to the personal integrity of the three band members, Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, Motörhead were experiencing their seventh or eighth spring in the 30th year of their existence and continued to be as generous as ever.

The track listing consists of 23 songs, a kind of ‘best of Motörhead' featuring, among others, classics such as ‘Bomber', ‘Ace Of Spades', ‘Overkill', ‘Sacrifice' and ‘Iron Fist'. Then there are some more recent tracks from their 2005 release, Inferno , and a number of surprises: June 2005 saw Motörhead delve deeply into vaults that their fans had assumed to be permanently locked up. “This one is from an album that you hated,” Lemmy announced to his dumbfounded audience, reviving Another Perfect Day with ‘Dancing On Your Grave' and ‘I Got Mine'. And lo and behold - the fans enthusiastically celebrated songs in 2005 that they had once condemned. A truly remarkable night.

December 14, 2006 MOTORHEAD-Sponsored Soccer Team To Take On IRON MAIDEN Youth

From Blabbermouth.net:

According to Heavy Metal Radio, a youth soccer team sponsored by rock band MOTORHEAD will take on heavy metal rivals IRON MAIDEN in a charity match.

Greenbank FC under 10s, from North Hykeham, struck a deal with MOTORHEAD and now sports an all-black kit with the band's snaggletooth logo.

Since the deal was announced, the team has been constantly in the media spotlight and was even featured on BBC's "Football Focus".

After hearing about the sponsorship, a fellow team backed by rockers IRON MAIDEN challenged the youngsters to a match.

Maiden Youth under 10s, who play in the East London and Essex League, will play Greenbank in two games next season ‹ one at West Ham United's ground, Upton Park, the other at Hull City's KC stadium.

Manager of Greenbank, Gary Weight, who used to know singer Lemmy during his days working as a band tour manager in the 1980s said the challenge came out of the blue.

"The bass player and founder of IRON MAIDEN, Steve Harris, has a son who plays youth football and their team has been sponsored by the band," he said.

"When they heard about us they got in touch and wanted to set up a game. The first game is on May 20, with the second on May 27 in Hull. They are both celebrity charity events and they are held every year at stadiums around the country.

"The IRON MAIDEN team has been running since under sevens ‹ it will be a real ‹ it will be a real spectacle."

The Greenbank team got the chance to meet MOTORHEAD last month when the band played a gig at Nottingham's Rock City.

Mr. Weight also took his son Charley (nine) who plays for Greenbank to meet The Zutons when they played at Lincoln's Engine Shed a few weeks ago.

"When we walked in the band all recognised Charley from TV," he said. "It was quite funny because the school The Zutons used to go to was Greenbank."

Manager of Maiden Youth, Mark Abery, from Essex, whose son Beau plays midfield said he was looking forward to taking on the MOTORHEAD boys.

"I organize the celebrity Soccer Six tournaments every year, which features people like Rod Stewart, Ant and Dec and Robbie Williams," he said. "It should be a really good match. It's not every day you see two teams like this taking each other on."

Sept 8, 2006 MOTORHEAD: 'Be My Baby' Video Posted Online

From Blabbermouth.net:

MOTORHEAD's video for the song "Be My Baby" has been posted online at this location (Real Media). The track comes off the band's brand new CD, "Kiss of Death", which has entered the national album charts in the following countries:

Germany: #4
Norway: #9
Sweden: #13
Austria: #20
Switzerland: #26
U.K.: #45
Denmark: #53
"Kiss of Death" was recorded at the Paramount studios in Los Angeles with Cameron Webb, who also worked with the group on their last effort. The CD includes guest appearances by POISON guitarist C.C. Deville and ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Inez.

"It's better than 'Inferno', and 'Inferno' seems to be the favorite of the later years so far," MOTORHEAD frontman Lemmy recently said. "It's better songs. Better arrangements and a better performance from me vocally, and a better performance from Phil Campbell on the guitar; he plays great on the songs."

Lemmy is also seeing some more exposure in rock magazines (and in the pages of Maxim). In Revolver magazine, Matt Pike of HIGH ON FIRE interviews his idol, and Bass Guitar magazine contains a feature which includes Lemmy's top five favorite rhythm sections, according to MonstersandCritics.com.

Maxim magazine's October issue begins an ongoing monthly column with Lemmy where he invests an imaginary sum in a variety of stocks and the magazine will track their progress. And the stocks Lemmy chose? They include the makers of his smoke and drink of choice, since he "personally keeps them in business."

From Blabbermouth.net:

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has posted the following message in his online diary:

"Last show with MOTORHEAD was tonight [Saturday, Dec. 10]. We all got onstage here in Perth [Australia] and did 'Anarchy in the U.K.' Two basses, amazing. It was nice to spend so much time hanging out with Lemmy [Click Here for photo]. We were talking one day about something and he cut me off and said, 'I know, I read your book.' Little things like that stun me still. We made a promise to spend more hang time in Los Angeles and I intend on keeping my end of the bargain. Tonight is my birthday in L.A. so the band gave me a cake, sang 'Happy Birthday' and no shenanigans - they could see home in my eyes and knew I was ready to head to the hotel and pack. They're off to Hawaii for some R&R."

October 4, 2005 CLASSIC ROCK ROLL OF HONOUR Awards: Winners Announced

From Blabbermouth.net:

The Classic Rock Roll Of Honour, Classic Rock magazine's inaugural annual award ceremony, takes place tonight (Oct. 4) at London's Café De Paris. Unlike other honours evenings in the heavily crowded calendar of events, the Classic Rock Roll of Honour will take a unique approach to the Living Legend Award. This year being awarded to MOTORHEAD's Lemmy Kilmister - to coincide with his 60th birthday and the 30th anniversary of MOTORHEAD - an entire portion of the evening will be dedicated to Lemmy, including video messages from a host of stars and fans and a very special guest to present him with his award. Other winners include MOTT THE HOOPLE's Ian Hunter, who is flying in from the States especially, Billy Idol for the "Comeback of the Year" award and the late Tommy Vance who has been honoured with the "Inspiration" award. Tommy's wife, Cookie Hope Weston, will be in attendance tonight to collect his award and say a few words. Legendary loony Arthur Brown will be attending to receive the "Showman Award" as the original inspiration behind a multitude of other bands, including KISS. And one of U.K. rock's finest bands, DEEP PURPLE, will be honoured with the "Classic Album" award for their seminal 1970 album "Deep Purple In Rock". Full winners details are as follows:

Best New Band: THE ANSWER
Comeback of the Year: BILLY IDOL
Showman: ARTHUR BROWN
Classic Songwriter: Ian Hunter (MOTT THE HOOPLE)
Metal Guru: JUDAS PRIEST
V.I.P.: Neil Warnock (The Agency)
Inspiration: Tommy Vance
Classic Album: DEEP PURPLE for "In Rock"
Living Legend: Lemmy Kilmister
As well as the prestigious nine awards, there will also be a brief run-down of the winners from the Classic Rock Roll of Honour Readers' Awards. Categories included Album of the Year, Band of the Year, Best Reissue, Classic Rock Collection, DVD of the Year and Classic Rock Event.

"These winners are some of the bands and artists that built rock 'n' roll," commented Scott Rowley, Classic Rock magazine's Editor-in-Chief. "It's not about being trendy or having your image approved by Simon Cowell - these are guys who changed the way people thought about rock music, from the crazy showmanship of Arthur Brown to high voltage rock of DEEP PURPLE and MOTORHEAD. People can't even remember the name of the guy who won the last 'Pop Idol' - but these guys wrote the songs that have soundtracking our lives - and we'll still be listening to them in 20 years' time."

October 4, 2005 MOTORHEAD's 'Godfather' Of Hard Rock To Receive Action Figure

From Blabbermouth.net:

SEG (Stevenson Entertainment Group) has announced that they have entered into an agreement with Bravado International for figural and statue rights to the band MOTORHEAD.

"For the past 30 years, Lemmy Kilmister and his band MOTORHEAD have seen and done it all and lived to tell about it," the company said in a statement. "And what's more amazing is that they're still going strong. Not only did MOTORHEAD pick up a Grammy in 2005, but they're still out on the road playing to sold-out crowds around the world. Viewed by his peers and the masses as the 'Godfather' of hard rock music, Lemmy has become an indisputable icon that has etched his place in history as one of the best."

SEG will be releasing a detailed action figure of Lemmy Kilmister in the spring of 2006 with a statue of MOTORHEAD's "warpig" logo in the fall of 2006.

August 22, 2005 MOTORHEAD Guitarist Helps Accident Victim

From Blabbermouth.net:

icWales is reporting that MOTORHEAD guitarist Phil Campbell will join four other bands at a charity gig in Wales tonight (August 22) for a barman left blind and deaf after an horrific car accident.

21-year-old Nick Butcher, whose dad, Tim, works as a technician with MOTORHEAD, needed major reconstructive surgery to put 20 metal plates in his face after the head-on collision.

Commented Tim: "Nick is a real joker, full of life. He's still got his sense of humor but that's all he's got left. As a parent, it's awful to see. I think he's taken it better than I have."

Nick, a former Llanishen High School pupil, was with his girlfriend with their car was involved in the road smash.

The impact crushed his head, destroyed his nose, and fracturing his jaw and skull. He was in a coma at Swansea's Morriston Hospital for a month following the crash ten weeks ago.

He eventually woke but found his senses gone, and plans to become a catering manager over.

"Nick and his girlfriend were knocked unconscious," said Tim. "She woke and thought he was dead.

"We had been together in the morning and I had left to go to the Hammersmith Odeon in London for MOTORHEAD's 30th anniversary concert. The police called and said they weren't sure he would make it.

"He is now blind and deaf and has no feeling in his face or head. He has got brain damage and can speak but is a lot slower."

Nick, who once worked at Cardiff's Hanover Hotel, has just started physiotherapy and is allowed home from hospital at weekends.

August 22, 2005 MOTORHEAD Documentary To Air On British TV Tonight

From Blabbermouth.net:

A MOTORHEAD documentary, entitled "Live Fast, Die Old", will air on Channel 4 in the U.K. tonight (August 22) at 11:00 p.m. A show synopsis follows:

"MOTORHEAD are rock's most stubborn survivors. Formed in 1975 by rock legend Lemmy Kilmister, they were once one of Britain's biggest bands. Renowned for being among the heaviest drinking, drug-fuelled womanisers in the business, the band made the 'Guinness Book of Records' as the loudest band ever. In the early eighties they blasted their way to the top of the charts with 'Ace of Spades'. Almost thirty years on, 'Motorhead: Live Fast, Die Old' follows behind the scenes as Lemmy and his band set off on their next U.K. tour. Lemmy is now 57. He still drinks a bottle of bourbon a day and shows little sign of slowing down. But how and why does he keep going? From Lemmy's West Hollywood apartment, crammed with Nazi memorabilia, knives and gothic skulls - to Norwich Student Union, Portsmouth Guildhall and the after gig parties in Newcastle, Manchester and Wolverhampton - the band are booked to play eleven towns in 13 days, living and sleeping on the same bus. Playing the same music, wearing the same clothes and still as controversial as they've always been, can a band really survive without changing?"

July 28, 2005 CORROSION OF CONFORMITY To Play European Dates With MOTORHEAD

From Blabbermouth.net:

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist Woody Weatherman has posted the following message on the group's web site:

"We've lined up a string of our own shows coming up this September in the United Kingdom. It's an overdue return for us and we're stoked to be headed back overseas. Also we're going to be joining the mighty MOTORHEAD once again for some gigs on the European continent. Thanks to them for the invitation, and see you all over there."

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY are continuing to tour in support of their new album, "In the Arms of God", available now on Sanctuary Records.

The group's first collection of new material since 2000's "America's Volume Dealer", "In the Arms of God" was produced by C.O.C.'s longtime collaborator John Custer. Besides working on four of the band's previous albums, Custer also produced C.O.C. bassist Mike Dean's track on Dave Grohl's PROBOT project and C.O.C.'s contribution to "Nativity In Black", the BLACK SABBATH tribute compilation. Playing drums was New Orleans' Stanton Moore, skinsman for the renowned jazz-funk combo GALACTIC.

July 5, 2005 Metal Websites Apologize For Lemmy Hoax Story

A fake press release has been circulation around some music websites for a few weeks now. The press release purported to be derived from an interview that Lemmy gave VH1 in which it was supposedly revealed that he was 'bi-sexual'. Uproariously amusing and farcical as 99% of the world found it, the much respected website for the metal magazine Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles fell for it and ran the press release last week as factual. As a result, several other sites also ran with the story. Needless to say (though we feel obliged to anyhow) the entire thing was a hoax concocted by the webmaster for a site called a href="http://www.mariosmetalmania.com" target="new">www.mariosmetalmania.com

From Bravewords.com:

MOTORHEAD's Lemmy Kilmister Is NOT Bisexual
[Hot Flashes - 05.07.04 14:35:36]

A recent internet interview in which MOTORHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister apparently outs himself as bisexual has been proven to be BOGUS. The interview in question was initially distributed by Mario's Metal Mania (www.mariosmetalmania.com) who later put the blame on VH1.com. Lemmy has always been forthright when commenting on conquests with his "birds".

Here is a quote from the metal legend which describes his overzealous heterosexual nature, taken from his official autobiography White Line Fever (Simon & Schuster UK Ltd. 2002):

"When it came to chicks, we weren't really worried about quality in my band. And, actually, quality is certainly in the eye of the beholder. What people call quality is usually better dressed, which doesn't cut any ass with me. I've met chicks who look like bad ladies who have more brains, better conversation and are just all-around sexier than the best dressed models in the world. It's true. Those model types are like Fuckin' thoroughbred horses - they look good but they're dumb as shit. I've had a lot of what people would call slutty chicks around, and I like them because they're honest and up front. They're like me - they say, 'I like fucking! Let's go!' And, really, that's the way it should be."

July 5, 2005 Motorhead Cancel Some European Festival Shows

Motorhead have been forced to cancel a few of their European summer festivals and reschedule others after founder and frontman Lemmy Kilmister was diagnosed by doctors this week as suffering from extreme dehydration leading to exhaustion and was ordered to take time off and rest immediately.

"When you're dealing with a warhorse like Lemmy it's not easy to discuss typical normal healthy things such as a balanced diet and proper fluid intake," said manager Todd Singerman. "Look, one time when I spoke to him about the importance of vegetables in a diet, he looked me straight in the eye and said "what are you talking about Todd! These crisps here are part of the vegetable food group!" So imagine telling him he needs to drink more water because it's a crazy hot summer in Europe! Although in fairness to Lemm he did start making an effort by adding extra ice-cubes to his Jack and coke".

Drummer Mikkey Dee spoke of the 100 plus degree heat at recent gigs, and commented, "I'm having to drink 8 bottles of Gatorade as well as water just to get through these shows, I mean, I'm close to passing out, and there's Lemm sweating his ass off drinking his Jack and coke! I told him after our last number at the Fury Fest in France, 'let's not go back out for an encore' and that we should call it a night because really, I thought I was going to collapse. They were telling us that it was over 130 degrees on stage, but he insisted on doing the final two encores. We managed to get through 'Ace Of Spades' so I said 'come on Lemm, we did an encore, let's just skip the last one Overkill' and he said, "no Mikkey, we're doing 'Overkill' but maybe we can just play it a little slower."

Commenting on rumors that Lemmy's health is in a more serious state than diagnosed, Singerman laughed. "Come on, you couldn't make this story up! The simple truth is that Lemmy's the classic rock'n'roll juggernaut who has proudly defied human logic for decades, but even juggernauts need a bit of maintenance once in a while."

March 23, 2005 MOTORHEAD To Release 30th-Anniversary Double DVD In July

From Blabbermouth.net:

MOTORHEAD will be issuing a 30th anniversary DVD on July 4 via SPV Records. The two-disc set will feature the band's December 2004 concert in Düsseldorf, Germany on one disc and a documentary feature on the second disc. More information will be made available soon.

MOTORHEAD are planning to commemorate the milestone with a concert at London's Hammersmith Odeon on June 16. Female metal group GIRLSCHOOL will also be on the bill. Frontman Lemmy told ABC ePrep that the rest of the lineup is still tentative, although he'd like British metal band SAXON to be on the bill.

As previously reported, MOTORHEAD's legendary "Ace of Spades" LP is the focus of Eagle Entertainment's latest installment of its "Classic Album" DVD series. Released on Tuesday (March 22), "Ace of Spades: Classic Album" sees bandmembers Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke and Philip "Philthy Animal" Taylor talking candidly about the writing and recording of the album and the goings on inside the MOTORHEAD camp at the time. Watch "Fast" Eddie as he demonstrates how the riff for "Ace of Spades" came about, and see the trio (with the help of modern technology) together on the same stage once again. Each song on the album is discussed and tales from the studio/road are remembered. Bonus material consists of live instrumental versions of "(We Are) The Road Crew" and "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch", performed exclusively for the DVD, and "A Piece Of Lemmy's Mind" interview from Hollywood's Rainbow Room. Extended interviews with Slash (GUNS N' ROSES, VELVET REVOLVER), Lars Ulrich (METALLICA) and Dave Brock (HAWKWIND) peek deeper into MOTORHEAD's songwriting process, the man that is Lemmy Kilmister and the story of how he was "relieved of his position" as bassist in HAWKIND. "Ace of Spades: Classic Album" has a list price of $14.98 and a total running time of 50 minutes plus bonus footage.

March 10, 2005 MOTORHEAD's LEMMY Talks About His World War II Fascination

From Blabbermouth.net:

MOTORHEAD mainman Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister recently spoke to Reuters about his fascination with World War II and his penchant for spending his money collecting Nazi memorabilia, which is piled high in his two-bedroom apartment off the Sunset Strip.

"I was born in '45, the year it all ended," Kilmister said. "It's not ancient history to me, and I don't see it as all the good English and Americans and all the bad Germans."

His most prized possession is a rare Damascus Luftwaffe sword, which could be worth at least $10,000, according to a dealer.

"It's my old-age pension," Kilmister said of his collection.

Coincidentally MOTORHEAD, which Kilmister founded 30 years ago, is biggest in Germany, and he never misses an opportunity to tour historic sites across Europe ã though not the concentration camps.

"You've got to draw the line between what you like to collect and what they actually did," he said.

Hermann Goering is "the only one I admire at all," in part because the portly Luftwaffe chief set up the Gestapo, the Nazis' secret police, and took the blame when he went on trial at Nuremberg after the war. His suicide, hours before he was due to be hanged, was "fantastic," Kilmister said.

But he lumps Adolf Hitler, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Neville Chamberlain and Josef Stalin all in the same category "as lying, thieving, groveling bastards." Current U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair also annoys him. "Anybody that smiles that much, there must be something wrong with him."

February 13, 2005 MOTORHEAD WINS THEIR FIRST GRAMMY!

From Blabbermouth.net:

Congratulations to Lemmy, Mikkey & Phil!

MOTORHEAD picked up a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for their cover of METALLICA's "Whiplash", shutting out CRADLE OF FILTH ("Nymphetamine"), HATEBREED ("Live For This"), KILLSWITCH ENGAGE ("The End of Heartache") and SLIPKNOT ("Vermilion").

From Grammys.com:

The long, raucous career of British rockers Motorhead just about defines the genre of "metal," and this year the noisily venerable outfit is a nominee for BEST METAL PERFORMANCE with their appropriately titled track, "Whiplash." Hard rock nominees Slipknot also have a shot at metal honors with the sharp-edged track "Vermilion" from Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) . The pummeling power of "Live For This" from Hatebreed's The Rise Of Brutality album demonstrates how energetic the metal genre can be, while the range of the category is evident by Killswitch Engage's fiercely dynamic title track "The End Of Heartache." The mysterious substance "Nymphetamine" may not yet have FDA approval, but the amped-up title track to Cradle Of Filth's latest effort is a strong contender here as well.

Best Metal Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)

* Whiplash

The immortal MOTORHEAD and mighty CORROSION OF CONFORMITY will hit the road for a North American tour in spring 2005.

MOTORHEAD ã celebrating its 30th anniversary this year with a third career Grammy Award nomination ã makes a triumphant return to these shores after a 2004 fall tour was canceled due to an injury suffered by vocalist/bassist Lemmy. At last, Lemmy, guitarist Philip Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee are able to perform on this continent to promote their Metal-Is/Sanctuary Records release "Inferno". This remarkable album earned mountains of overwhelmingly positive reviews. In fact, the Associated Press called "Inferno" the best MOTORHEAD album ever.

"CORROSION OF CONFORMITY are a fine band as everybody knows. Also, they must be one of the few bands who have been going as long as MOTORHEAD! Still, we'll give them a run for their money!" says Lemmy. "Glad to have those boys along."

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, also known as COC, will give audiences a tantalizing taste of the blistering new Sanctuary Records album, "In The Arms of God", which is scheduled for release on April 5, 2005. Scheduling conflicts will prevent Moore from touring with the band. Jason Patterson (CRY OF LOVE) will serve as COC's touring drummer.

"Lemmy and MOTORHEAD are to heavy metal and our roots what Johnny Cash is to country," says Keenan. "It's an honor and a privilege to deliver volume on the same stage...now up the f%#kin' hammers! Not to mention we've got the baddest skulls in heavy metal!"

MOTORHEAD will also be performing at World Wrestling Entertainment's WrestleMania 21 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA, on Sunday, April 3.

December 6/04 Motorhead's Campbell Rocks with Minarik Inferno Guitar

From Blabbermouth.net:

Guitarist Phil Campbell of the legendary U.K. band MOTORHEAD recently became a believer in Minarik Guitars after FPE agents introduced him to these one-of-a-kind instruments.

Campbell and his MOTORHEAD bandmates are currently in the midst of a world tour. Phil's guitar chops, combined with the tonality of the Minarik Inferno, are blowing away audiences in both the U.K. and the USA.

"We are proud to have Phil playing our guitars," states Mark Minarik. "MOTORHEAD and the Inferno are a perfect match. Both are intense, in your face, and built to last!"

Coincidentally, MOTORHEAD's latest CD release on Metal-Is Records shares the same name as the guitar Phil is playing ã "Inferno". It's the first album of new, skin-peeling material from vocalist/bassist Lemmy, guitarist Philip Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee since 2002's "Hammered" and it's the first MOTORHEAD release since last year's critically acclaimed, five-disc, career-spanning box set "Stone Deaf Forever".

November 5/04 MOTORHEAD TAKES EUROPE BY STORM - LEMMY A-OK

In September of 2004, the world of metal was shocked when the news was unveiled that Lemmy, Motorhead's veteran front man, had sustained an injury to his foot severe enough to cause the band to cancel their much anticipated tour of the United States. Lemmy had managed to get an infection on his foot from an injury sustained on an earlier show. Ignoring doctors' orders, Lemmy forged ahead and finished the highly successful string of European festival dates. "Motorhead fans are the best fans in the world and they deserve everything I have to give," Lemmy waxed, "and I am going to do whatever I can to play the shows. F**k the doctors!" The band went on to play to thousands of fans, bring classics and new songs alike to the hungry metal heads!

The shows were a success, but the infection in Lemmy's foot grew to the point that some serious medical decisions had to be made. On the eve of the band's much anticipated US tour, doctors advised Lemmy that the infection was so severe that they suggested amputating a part of his foot to stem the spread. Lemmy told the doctors where they could stick their diagnosis and decided to head back to his native home of England and consult his physicians there. They suggested that the best course of action would be to address the infection with a regimen of antibiotics. The cure worked and less than two weeks later Lemmy was out of the hospital, in one piece and as fit as a fiddle, fitted with steel strings. It wasn't long before Lemmy was back to his old self, checking out his favorite London strip club String Fellows with a girl on each arm and plenty of Jack & Coke to make the evening complete.

Given a clean bill of health from all of his physicians, Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee decided to go ahead with their European tour plans. Motorhead kicks off the sold-out tour on November 4th in Dublin, Ireland. Dates continue throughout Europe and Scandinavia until the tour wraps up in Stockholm, Sweden, on December 19th.

As for the US tour? Plans are under way for Motorhead to take their spectacular road show to the US in March of 2005 to support their newest record 'Inferno.'

September 9/04 MOTORHEAD CANCELS U.S. TOUR DUE TO INJURY SUFFERED BY LEMMY

Motorhead regrets to announce that the U.S. tour scheduled for September/October 2004 is canceled due to a foot injury suffered by vocalist/bassist Lemmy.

Lemmy injured his foot on stage about month ago while touring in Europe.

Lemmy, ignoring the pain and against his European doctor's recommendation, completed the few remaining shows on the Motorhead summer festival tour.

Since he was not able to rest his foot for a while, Lemmy's injury worsened, and his U.S. doctor insisted in no uncertain terms that Lemmy stay off his foot for several weeks in order for it to heal properly.

Motorhead will return for a U.S. tour in March 2005. Lemmy, guitarist Philip Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee hate to disappoint their fans but it is necessary for Lemmy's injury to heal so that Motorhead can rock long into the future.

Motorhead's latest album, 'Inferno,' has earned the groundbreaking band the best reviews of its career. The Associated Press calls this Metal-Is/Sanctuary Records release "their best album ever ... a 12-track opus that packs as much power, punch and attitude as anything that's ever been committed to tape."

May 21/04 Lemmy Contributes to Two YOUNG HEART ATTACK songs

LEMMY recently took part in the recording of YOUNGHEART ATTACK's single titled Tommy Shots. Lemmy recorded bass and vocal parts for the b-side of the single which is a cover of AC/DC's Get It Hot. Here is what was written in a YOUNGHEART ATTACK interview:

The B-side of our new single, Tommy Shots, is going to be a cover of AC/DC's Get It Hot featuring Lemmy from MOTORHEAD. He came into town and did the song, and he was a real pro, man. He did his shit and was really relaxed. He played all his bass and vocal parts in like two takes. And he gave us some good advice: Every riff has been written, he told us. You can try as hard as you want to come up with something new, but rock and roll is really not that hard.

Official YOUNGHEART ATTACK website reports that the band recorded one more song with Lemmy for the future releases.

The single Tommy Shots was released on March 29. The title track is taken from YOUNGHEART ATTACK album Mouthful Of Love released by XL Records.

Thanks to Artyom Golev for this news.

Dave stops by to talk with host Juliya about all things metal in honor of his critically acclaimed "old-school metal" project PROBOT. Also stopping by to take part in the interview are metal legends Wino (ST. VITUS, THE OBSESSED, PLACE OF SKULLS, SPIRIT CARAVAN), Eric Wagner (TROUBLE), and Snake (VOIVOD). In the interview, Dave talks about everything from how and why he started the project, his influences, the video for "Shake Your Blood" and the Suicide Girls burlesque troupe. who appear in the video, and what it was like to work with his heroes, like MOTORHEAD's Lemmy.

"[Lemmy]'s one of the most intelligent people I've ever met," Dave said. "Super funny, but he has moments of dead seriousness when you're talking about certain authors or history, he's an expert. But like [Wino] said, Lemmy's pretty much a stand-up comedian. He was so pro in the studio, I was so nervous I actually had this one song I was gonna give to him but I wasn't sure about it, like 'Oh is
